The Michigan essay exam is one of the most difficult tests offered in the country. In order to successfully pass
this exam, not only must you have expertise in over 20 areas of law, but you must be able to demonstrate your
knowledge and ability to apply the law in a cogent and reasonable fashion. It is graded in a subjective manner by
over-worked and underpaid attorneys. Michigan's court rules recognize this subjective grading and have set forth
a procedure to review test scores.
A bar appeal allows you to not only represent your answers to the law examiners, but also to put your own "spin" on
the test. Further, unlike many states, Michigan allows you to have legal representation in presenting your answers
in its appeal to the board.
I have written over 30 appeals in the last seven years and have successfully helped many bar candidates go on to become
attorneys without having to retake the test.
I have refined the process of preparing bar appeals so that the candidate has nothing to do but review the final draft
before it is submitted to the bar. I do all the analysis of the test, analyze the model answer and review the results
of the candidate. I do so in an objective manner with an eye towards not only your success, but also to give the
candidate a realistic opinion of his or her chances of success on an appeal.
In addition to representing clients on appeal, I have successfully tutored dozens of bar candidates on successful
writing techniques for the state bar. It is a specialized technique of legal writing and legal analysis that is unique to
the test itself.
Let me review your test to determine whether you have a bar appeal. This is a free and confidential consultation and
may make the difference between practicing law in a month and waiting another six months or more.
